Sad Report:With Michael Smith departure today,Sheffield Wednesday has finally lost everything see more…
Michael Smith has insisted Sheffield Wednesday players want to secure promotion as champions this season.
Reaching the Championship – regardless of how that is achieved – remains the ultimate aim after suffering play-off heartache in May. A third year in League One would prove catastrophic for the Owls and, as it stands, goals scored is the only metric denying Wednesday an automatic spot. Darren Moore’s side secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Port Vale on Thursday in their last outing.
Summer signing Smith bagged a brace – his first goals since October 29 – to close the gap on Ipswich Town, who sit in second place. Plymouth Argyle also edged out a 1-0 win against Wycombe Wanderers to cement their spot at the top of League One
But I was delighted to see it hit the back of the net. I was never going to take it (the second goal) outside on my left foot, so I was trying to find the angle and get back on my right. I haven’t hit the heights that I want to personally but, hopefully, I can kick on in the second half of the season and tonight can be a bit of a launchpad for myself.”
