The rich always get richer, and the San Francisco 49ers are definitely one of the richest teams in the league.
Following a three-game slide, John Lynch added even more stars to his Avengers-kind of team, trading for Chase Young.
He’s now set to be reunited with fellow Ohio State Buckeye Nick Bosa and join forces with Arik Armstead and Javon Hargrave, putting together one of the best defensive lines we’ve seen in quite a while.
With that in mind, star WR/RB Deebo Samuel β who’s expected to be back on the field on Sunday β talked about the big boost Young will give their defense (Via Up & Adams).
The Niners got Young at a major discount.
They just had to send a 2024 compensatory third-round pick to the Washington Commanders to land a former Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Young has five sacks this season, which is more than any player on the Niners’ roster.
On top of that, this was the ultimate risk-free move, as the Niners could get a 2025 compensatory third-round pick if they fail to reach an agreement with him over a new contract.
Young was one of the most promising defenders on Earth before injuries derailed his young career, but he’s still got his best football ahead of him and has been quite productive this season.
The Commanders hated to watch him go, but they had already spent plenty of cash on their defensive line, and with a new regime set to make decisions in the offseason, they needed as much financial flexibility as they could get.
