Part two of Pep Guardiola’s pre-Wolves press conference from Friday afternoon is now available in preparation for this weekend’s Premier League trip to Molineux.
After losing to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, Manchester City will travel to Wolves on Saturday in an effort to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
At St James’ Park on Wednesday, Alexander Isak’s early second-half goal put an end to Manchester City’s hopes of winning the Carabao Cup and the quadruple. This was Pep Guardiola’s team’s first loss of the year.
Last Saturday, Manchester City battled to a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium, retaining their perfect start to the season despite having midfielder Rodri sent out for aggressive behavior only seconds into the second half.
Wolves, led by Gary O’Neil, have won only one Premier League game thus far this season and haven’t claimed a victory since August, but they were also eliminated from the Carabao Cup in midweek.
In part two of Pep Guardiola’s pre-Wolves press conference, the City manager discussed a number of topics, including Oscar Bobb, continued player welfare concerns, Matheus Nunes’ return to Wolves, and Girona’s impressive start to La Liga. The Blues have two more Premier League matches before the latest international break, and face a crucial trip to Arsenal next weekend, after games against Wolves and RB Leipzig.
Whether or not Oscar Bobb belongs in the starting lineup for Norway
“I don’t have a question for you. I’m not asking the question. I’m not sure. I don’t; [Stale] Solbakken is fully aware of his obligations.
Regarding Stale Solbakken’s initial selection of Bobb and Haaland
“I believe Solbakken is aware of how well Oscar Bobb performed against Newcastle, one of the Champions League teams, in those games. But after he has made the choice.
Whether or not there should be a top limit on the number of games played
“Any idea you have to slightly lower the number of games available to gamers would be excellent. However, nothing will change. Players must determine for themselves, “Stop, we have to change something,” as the only way to effect change. FIFA/UEFA may respond.
“The show must go on in this business. Pep without? Carry on. The show won’t continue without the players, though; that much is certain. As a result, it is up to them to determine whether to accept. Take a look at what occurred with the women’s team in Spain.
“The players came to the conclusion that something needed to change, so they did. They succeeded. That is their greatest accomplishment to date. The Spanish women’s team succeeded. I’m not sure if they can do it in men’s international football.
With regards to Matheus Nunes”strike’ at Wolves in the summer
“When I spoke with him, he told me, ‘I never, never, ever stated I’m not going to train’… I hope he has the fortitude to deal with the circumstances [at Molineux this weekend].
Regarding Girona leading La Liga
“It’s not that they are in first place [in La Liga]; seven games is not a lot, but we have always considered Girona staying in the league. They might make a reliable team. They have never before been that. The way they are playing is what I find most amazing.
“They outperform opponents in every game, create more, have incredible recruiting, and a management of the highest caliber.
“My brother is present, too. We are thrilled to have them as a part of the group and hope they will stay.
