Jamie Redknapp was speaking on Sky Sports (broadcast on 24/9; 16:16) after Tottenham Hotspur came from behind on two occasions to leave the Emirates with a point when he observed that James Maddison hunted Jorginho whenever the Arsenal midfielder got the ball during the second half of the North London derby.
Due to a knock to Declan Rice, Jorginho was introduced for the second half. At £12 million, the Italy international has proven to be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal. Since Rice’s arrival in the summer, Mikel Arteta has a tendency to use him to stabilize games.
Redknapp observed Maddison’s actions everytime Jorginho received the ball.
Jorginho, unfortunately, made the error that resulted in Tottenham’s second goal, which was bad news for Arsenal. James Maddison intercepted his pass, sprinted through, and then set up Son Heung-min for the equalizer.
Redknapp said that it appeared to be a strategy on the part of Tottenham to attack Jorginho anytime he received the ball.
Well, Jorginho, you could see that Maddison was all over him every time he received the ball, he said to Sky Sports.
“He wanted to pursue him because he knew that with just a touch, he could get rid of him. And here, he is ambushed.
If Rice’s injury is even slightly serious, Jorginho might play a significant role in the upcoming matches. Even though fans were naturally quite apprehensive when he first came onto the scene in the last hours of the January transfer window, he has really proven to have been a brilliant acquisition.
And you would assume that he won’t commit the same mistake again.
Risks will always be taken when playing in the styles that Arsenal and Tottenham do. Mistakes won’t likely follow too soon after that.
Both clubs will undoubtedly believe they should have prevailed. They won’t lose either, though, so it will also make them feel a little better.
And there’s a good chance that, when the season really heats up, both teams will look back on that as a pivotal moment.
