Ivan Toney, a center-forward for Brentford, has been recommended to Arsenal as Mikel Arteta tries to reduce the gap on Man City.
To strengthen their front line, Jay Bothroyd has advised Arsenal to try to recruit Ivan Toney, a striker for Brentford.
Last season, Mikel Arteta’s team came in second, almost losing out on winning the Premier League to Manchester City. Gabriel Jesus, who the Gunners signed from City in the summer of 2022, was one of their important players.
The Brazilian international was designed specifically for Arteta’s system thanks to his excellent link-up play, pressing prowess, and clever mobility. However, the 26-year-old struggled in the final third last season, scoring just 11 Premier League goals while registering an astounding 16.17xG (expected goals), according to Understat.
In recent times, the Gunners have been linked with a move for a new center-forward to rival Jesus, and former England player Bothroyd has encouraged the north Londoners to pursue Toney from Brentford.
On Sky Sports’ Saturday Social, former Arsenal youngster Bothroyd praised the Bees’ center-forward, saying: “[Toney’s] an A for me, he scores goals, he’s prolific, he’s strong, and he leads the line really well.” He will score at least 20 Premier League goals every season if he joins one of the elite teams.
“He’s excellent on penalties, great on penalties. I would love for Arsenal to sign him right away if you took him to a place like Arsenal.
“I believe he would score more goals in the Premier League than Jesus or Ollie Watkins.” The 2022–23 season saw Toney score 20 league goals, an incredibly amazing performance that has him pegged at £80 million by the Times.
The 27-year-old is presently serving an eight-month suspension from all football after being found guilty of 232 violations of FA gambling rules, which complicates any move, of course.
