Before Sunday’s match between Manchester United and the Emirates Stadium, Erik ten Hag made a statement.
Rasmus Hojlund, a recent acquisition of Manchester United, shouldn’t be compared to Erling Haaland, a striker for Manchester City, in Erik ten Hag’s opinion. The ÂŁ72 million forward was added to the team this summer as part of a huge reorganization at Old Trafford, and the club’s upper management is confident in his bright future there.
After learning that he had recovered from a back injury that kept him out of the opening three Premier League games, the 20-year-old is expected to make his Red Devils debut this weekend against Arsenal.
Hojlund already has a great deal of pressure on his shoulders because he was the only striker United signed. Though many have compared the Danish international to Haaland and are hoping that he can have an impact comparable to the Golden Boot winner from last season.
Ten Hag believes that given that Hojlund has yet to even make his club debut, such statements are unwarranted. On Friday, the ex-Ajax manager was questioned about the comparisons before of his team’s matchup with Arsenal. He responded, “I think Rasmus is a distinct character in our squad – and that makes it extremely intriguing.
The balance in my squad is excellent, and we have already observed since he joined this past week that a new attitude is emerging. He imparts that energy, and the players benefit from it as well. It is excellent. But allow him some time to adjust. No player may begin playing right away.
Of course, we have high expectations for Hojlund, but he needs some time to adapt to the group and our style of play. I have every faith that the remaining items will appear. He is bold, and that is sufficient. He has faith; the rest will follow.
