Utah’s Salt Lake City Ever since it was announced that Kevin McCullar Jr., the graduate senior guard for Kansas basketball, will miss the NCAA tournament due to an injury, rumors concerning McCullar’s health have been circulating.
However, Kansas head coach Bill Self made an unusual excursion to social media on Thursday in advance of the Jayhawks’ game against the Samford Bulldogs to respond to criticism. Self defended McCullar. Self’s team, ranked No. 4 in Kansas (22–10), will play No. 13 in Samford (29–5) in March Madness.
It’s not going to please everyone, but for those who support McCullar, it’s a significant move.
Self wrote on X, the social media site that was formerly known as Twitter, “I am not on social media much but since announcing Kevin would not play in the tournament, I’ve been told Kevin and this situation have been portrayed inaccurately.” “What I stated in this 45-second video is accurate. For the past two weeks, his knee has not gotten better. It aches too much to play any more. He hasn’t worked out in six weeks. We decided to stop working with him. All of it is true to the fullest extent, but what I chose not to say has led to a misleading narrative that improperly questions Kevin. Everyone in the program is aware of the tremendous effort he put in to try to play while in rehab. We are aware that the bone bruise could only
