Chase Brown, the Cincinnati Bengals’ rookie running back, might play a significantly bigger role as a sophomore.
That much seems evident considering Brown’s spectacular plays in the second part of the season, but it definitely doesn’t hurt for fans to have coaches corroborate it as well.
CLNS Media’s Mike Petraglia summed up a recent meeting with Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan on this topic well: “Callahan says Chase Brown has shown the ability to be explosive and the potential to be a big contributor to the offense next year after a full offseason where the focus is totally on learning the scheme and his role in it.”
That’s a strong endorsement for Brown, who has averaged more than four yards per carry and 11.2 yards per Catch on few receptions after joining the team in the fifth round and dealing with an injury.
It’s too early to say whether Brown will be the every-down back next season. It is worth questioning, however, whether the Bengals will use the out in Joe Mixon’s deal, as his current 2024 cap number is north of $8 million.
Brown currently has an advantage in terms of age, cost, and system experience over any other players they may add this summer.
