The Sydney Roosters’ persistent problems may be coming to an end soon, as star halfback Sam Walker nears a return from a knee injury.
The Chooks were brutally defeated by the Storm in Round 20, but a comeback the following weekend against the Titans kept their faint NRL finals aspirations alive.
Roosters coach Trent Robinson is still unsure when he will be able to call on his youthful playmaker to help reinvigorate their season, as a knee injury has kept him sidelined.
Walker has been out of play since suffering an ACL sprain during a NSW Cup game, with the initial diagnosis and time on the sidelines not matching up.
Prior to the side’s Round 22 game with the Broncos, Robinson stated that the 21-year-old playmaker should be back on the field in the coming weeks following a recent trip to Queensland.
“The facts are he didn’t go up there to sign a contract with someone else, which was funnily reported behind the scenes… he went up to see a specialist in Townsville on his knee and he’s getting pretty close,” Robinson went on to say.
“He’s returned to Sydney to train for the remainder of the week, with one final series of tests on Monday, and we’re looking forward to getting him back into football.
“Stop-start tests do not provide continuous progression in training… It has been a bit.The last few weeks have been tough.
“Getting the initial diagnosis wasn’t too horrible; generally they either go or don’t, so to end up where they were was fantastic.
“We needed to assess the top-end percentage of running and change of direction, which took a few weeks to complete.
