As England prepares to play their final Test against Tonga this weekend, huge concerns have been raised about star players Victor Radley and Tommy Makinson.
Before the game, England coach Shaun Wane said there were issues with the duo’s fitness; Makinson missed the second Test owing to injury.
Going up against Addin Fonua-Blake, Moeaki Fotuaika, and Keaon Koloamatangi in the forward pack, Radley’s likely absence would be a significant blow.
The lock has been outstanding in guiding the forward pack and partnering with Thomas Burgess and Matty Lees in the middle of the field.
“We had a few niggles in training after the first test, and I anticipated the second test would be harsh, so if we came unstuck”With a few players, we were in trouble,” England coach Shaun Wane said.
“They (Smithies and Thewlis) come in as backups, but when I called them, they were both eager to help.
“Victor (is in doubt). We’ll check on him tomorrow, but aside from that, everyone is just a little sore, as I assume they are in the Tongan camp. It is his groin.
“I don’t know (whether Makinson is fit). I met with the therapist this morning, and Tommy’s wrist is a little off. He’s not in camp right now; he’s at home, so I’ll check on him tomorrow – but he doesn’t seem well.”
