The Boston Red Sox have a long list of injured players just a few weeks into spring training. With Lucas Giolito out, Kenley Jansen back to full strength, and Jarren Duran reeling between injuries and spring games, the Sox don’t have much room to lose more people
But Boston just got another prospect. Newly acquired winger Tyler O’Neill is nursing a calf and will be out next weekend from 9-10. To stay away from the Dominican Republic series. March.
Fortunately for the Red Sox, O’Neill’s injury is not considered serious and he should be able to return to baseball soon.
The outfielder’s injury history is not on his side, but he expects to be able to play when Boston returns to Fort Myers on Monday for regular Grapefruit League play.2022. O’Neill was out of the game for a while. Various injuries, including a blow to the right shoulder and strains to both poppins, all of which required a single shot to the IL. He played in just 96 games this year and even fewer last season. O’Neill dealt with some back issues that put him on the 60-day IL.
O’Neill’s calf strain comes at an unfortunate time after he pitched quite well in Game 5 against the Rays. in march He hit a home run in the first of spring training and recorded two hits, three runs, a walk and a hit in that game. His performance resembled O’Neill’s 2021 screen, which the Red Sox hope to open for. . the rest of the season. O’Neill hit .286/.352/.560 with a .912 OPS and hit 34 home runs this year.If all goes as planned and O’Neill returns to work on March 11th, hopefully he will be back where he was by the Rays game left unfinished. O’Neill in 2021 would be the best case for the Red Sox this offseason, especially after all the talent they’ve lost in recent seasons..
