Sad to see’: Rob Gronkowski reacts to former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick not landing new job
NEW YORK
Rob Gronkowski, a former tight end for the New England Patriots, offered his perspective on the difficulty former head coach Bill Belichick faced in obtaining a new job.
“Watching that occur was depressing. The guy taught me so much, really. In a recent interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Gronkowski stated, “He taught me, you know, the game of football better than anyone else ever has.”
Since leaving New England, Belichick interviewed with at least one other team with an opening for a head coach, the Atlanta Falcons. That team selected another candidate for the job.
“You know, it was strange to watch him not get hired as a head coach,” Gronkowski remarked. “Understandably, though, and it’d be kind of cool to see him take a year off and come back next year and get a head coaching gig next year.”
During Belichick’s tenure, Gronkowski, 34, spent nine seasons as a player with the Patriots. Three Super Bowls were won by them collectively.
“He invested his time,” Gronkowski remarked. “He’s been coaching for 50-plus years straight, too, so he can have some time off, but it will be great for the NFL to see him come back next year and get a head coaching gig.”
