The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday waived right wing Christian Fischer, a frequent healthy scratch the past couple of months.
The move creates a roster spot if they need it to acquire a player or two before Friday’s 3 p.m. trade deadline (the 23-man roster limit is lifted at the deadline).
If Fischer clears on Thursday he can be assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Fischer has been scratched in 12 of the past 26 games since Dec. 29. A checking-line, energy player. he has one goal and six assists in 45 games.The Red Wings brought back Fischer, 27, for his second season with the team, signing him for one year at $1.125 million last summer.
