U.S. sprinter Noah Lyles only mustered a bronze medal at the highly anticipated men’s 200-meter final on Thursday, August 8.
The outspoken track star appeared exhausted after the race and was eventually helped off the track via wheelchair. As it turns out, he had tested positive for COVID-19 two days prior.
Shortly after the event, ESPN’s Coley Harvey reported that Lyles had also committed a violation.
“Adding to matters, it appears Noah Lyles was also just given a yellow card for a violation of Technical Rule 7.1, which falls under ‘improper conduct,'” Coley wrote on X. “No clue why at this point, but that designation just registered in the event monitoring system here.
