Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley now has a new home, but it’s not in the NBA. After twelve seasons stateside, Beverley is heading back overseas to play for Hapoel Tel Aviv BC of the Israeli Basketball Premier League and EuroCup Basketball, as he announced himself on his podcast:
Beverley spent the first three seasons of his professional career out of Arkansas playing in Greece and Russia before landing a multi-year deal with the Houston Rockets in 2013. After five seasons in Texas, Beverley was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in the Chris Paul trade. This would be the prime of Pat Bev’s career as between his time with the Rockets and Clippers, he made the All-Defensive Second Team twice and the All-Defenisve First Team once and finished top ten in Defensive Player of the Year voting three times. After leaving the Clippers in 2022, Beverley has played for five teams, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Milwaukee Bucks.
Three things that will always stick with me about Patrick Beverley are his tenacious defense, leadership, and outspoken personality. While those had been some of the hallmarks of his career, part of it became his undoing as well. His (potential) last act in the NBA was throwing a basketball at two Indiana Pacers fans and chastising a veteran NBA reporter for not subscribing to his podcast.
