The three have not been included in Jacques Nienaber’s squad; lock De Jager is unwell, fly-half Pollard and center Am are out with injuries.
The 2019 World Cup champions will be missing three key players, it has been confirmed. The news of their absence was speculated earlier today.
One identified fly-half
Manie Libbok is the sole recognized fly-half in the team due to Pollard’s absence; Damian Willemse provides backup for South Africa in that position.
It’s interesting to note that four scrum-halves—Faf de Klerk, Jaden Hendrikse, Grant Williams, and Cobus Reinach—are named among the 33.
Props Trevor Nyakane and Frans Malherbe lock Pieter-Steph du Toit, Duane Vermeulen, Siya Kolisi, Damian de Allende, Jesse Kriel, Eben Etzebeth, loose forwards, and full-back Willie le Roux is one of many players who will compete in their third World Cup tournament.
The following players are also coming back from 2019: Kwagga Smith (loose forward), Franco Mostert (utility forward), Willemse (utility back), Kwagga Smith and Vincent Koch (props), Bongi Mbonambi and Malcolm Marx (hookers), RG Snyman (lock), Kwagga Smith (loose forward), and De Klerk and Reinach (scrum-halves). And Jean Kleyn, who played for Ireland in the Japan competition.
Libbok (fly-half), Andre Esterhuizen (centre), Kurt-Lee Arendse and Canan Moodie (outside backs), Hendrikse and Williams (scrum-halves), Ox Nche (prop), Marvin Orie (lock), Marco van Staden and Jasper Wiese (loose forwards), and Deon Fourie (utility forward) are among the players making their Rugby World Cup debuts.
