After Rubin Colwill scored his first league goal in 19 months in response to recent criticism from his manager, Cardiff manager Erol Bulut relished a Severnside derby triumph.
Cardiff moved up to fifth place in the Sky Bet Championship as Colwill’s incredible goal in stoppage time sealed the Bluebirds’ 2-0 victory over Bristol City.
The Wales international scored his first league goal since March 2022 after Bulut indicated he had an issue with him and teammate Callum Robinson’s work rate. The player cut between two defenders before launching a fierce angled drive into the roof of the net.
“I was clear what I wanted from those two players,” Bulut stated. Their offensive game is strong.
“Colwill scored a fantastic goal once more, Robinson scored in the previous game, and
also put in a lot of work here.”They are playing much better defense than they did previously. We have 11 guys on the field, and I need 11 players, not 10, therefore I am anticipating this.
They are aware of my desires. With my players, I am sincere. I keep my other information from them. I make it clear to them what I desire.
The fact that they make an effort to return what I took from them is a positive thing. I’m glad about this.
Despite his two Carabao Cup goals this season, Colwill, 21, has not yet started a Championship match under Bulut.
After competing in the World Cup the previous year, he was demoted to the under-21 team and lost his spot in Rob Page’s Wales squad.
“Rubinis doing well and has been for a while, Bulut emphasized. “We get the performance we were hoping for when we put him on.
“My only want is for him, and I can advise him to keep going, to never give up.
“The game wasn’t easy. I told my players that we couldn’t enjoy our victory against Huddersfield, saying that we needed to keep working hard. We won that game 4-0.
“We succeeded, and my team is pleased with the outcome. I am pleased with the players’ performance.
Bristol City has suffered five straight losses, and manager Nigel Pearson is still dealing with a significant injury list.
“I am unable to have injured players return, and regrettably, we have a tiny
squad anyhow,” Pearson remarked. The game was lacking in content. Our own possession ended in two goals allowed, but we didn’t generate many chances.
Even if Cardiff may be performing well, I wouldn’t put them on the best side of things.
“It was a game where a team in strong form took advantage of our errors. They were not superior to us.
