Tyrod Taylor isn’t moving to a new city or even stadium—he’s just changing teams.
NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero said that the 34-year-old quarterback, who is a free agency, and the New York Jets had reached an agreement on a two-year contract worth up to $18 million.
Since the Baltimore Ravens selected him in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Taylor has been traded around the league; the Jets will be his eighth outfit.
With the Giants in New York, Taylor has played for the past two seasons. In 2023, Taylor made 11 appearances and five starts, finishing with a completion percentage of 64.4%, five passing touchdowns, and three interceptions. In 2022, he only made three game appearances.
Taylor will now be the Jets’ QB2 behind Aaron Rodgers after two years in a QB room with Daniel Jones. Zach Wilson, the former No. 2 overall pick, is still with the Jets, but they have given him permission to look for a trade.
Following the commencement of the NFL’s legal tampering period, Monday was a busy day for the Giants. In order to replace Saquon Barkley, who is joining the division rival Philadelphia Eagles, they signed running back Devin Singletary. They also executed a blockbuster trade to acquire edge rusher Brian Burns from the Carolina Panthers. Right now, Jones, Tommy DeVito, and Tommy Eason are the only players in their QB room.
