Eric DeCosta, the general manager of the Baltimore Ravens, compared The Lorax, a Dr. Seuss book, to contradict a recent story that said the team asked about dealing for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
After DeCosta compared the story to the fictional novel The Lorax, in which an orange-furred monster named The Lorax fights against an evil businessman named Once-ler to save a forest, La Canfora retaliated against DeCosta.
After trading for Odell Beckham Jr., the Ravens should be looking to add a wide receiver through free agency, trade, or the draft.
Although rookie wide out Zay Flowers and star tight end Mark Andrews are the Ravens’ primary pass-catching threats, the club still needs more productivity from wide receivers.
The 49ers are facing severe wage cap problems in the meantime. The team’s effective cap space (-$7.2 million) places it in the bottom three of the league according to Over the Cap. As a result, defensive lineman Arik Armstead was previously cut by the Niners.
Grant Cohn of All 49ers pointed out that a trade would result in the 49ers paying more than $21 million in dead money. Samuel has a $28.6 million cap charge in 2024.

Samuel accumulated 1,770 total yards and 14 touchdowns in 2021, making him one of the most effective and adaptable players in the NFL. The wide receiver hasn’t played nearly as well as he did then, while dealing with injuries that have kept him out of many games. With 1,117 yards and 12 touchdowns throughout the regular season, he did make a significant contribution to the 49ers last year.
DeCosta’s remarks suggest that Samuel has little chance of joining the Ravens. He is still a 49er for the time being as the team attempts to recover from a difficult season finale.
