WWE Raw brings the heat in the lead up to WrestleMania 40 with storylines culminating in the biggest premier live event of the year. Regardless, the big match of the show will be announced next week. GUNTHER was the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history and his reign has already touched the historic 633 day milestone.
At WrestleMania 40, he will put his prestigious title on the line in a one-on-one match. As General Manager Adam Pearce announced on this week’s Raw, six WWE Superstars will have the opportunity to face the “Ring General” at WrestleMania. 40 if they can win the Protection Match.
Pearce confirmed that six names will be in the match and they are the main stars of Raw Dominik Mysterio, Shinsuke Nakamura, Ricochet, JD McDonagh, Bronson Reed and Sami Zayn and they will face a title match at the Show of Shows.
The decision was made after several members of the Raw locker room begged the General Manager to select GUNTHER as his WrestleMania opponent.
That side of the story also hinted at a possible Ladder Match at the biggest event of the year.However, Gauntlet confirmed that the title match will be a singles match instead.
Meanwhile, GUNTHER defeated “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio on Raw and most recently retained the Intercontinental Championship against Jey Uso on the February 19 episode of Raw. Also on next week’s Raw, two of the most popular female superstars on the active roster will lock horns. Becky Lynch takes on Liv Morgan as the latter’s revenge tour continues.
Last night, Becky Lynch faced her longtime rival Nia Jax to settle their ongoing feud. Morgan appeared in the ring and threw Nia Jax off the barricade, causing Becky to lose by disqualification. Liv and Becky got into a heated brawl in the ring, only to suffer the wrath of Nia Jax, who took them out of the ring.
They continued their war of words backstage to set up a big match for the March 11 episode. After returning to WWE at the Royal Rumble, Morgan watched Rhea Ripley win the World Women’s Championship, but Becky would challenge for MAMI’s Judgment Day Championship at WrestleMania 40..
