Rey Mysterio has returned to action nearly four months after undergoing knee surgery.
Mysterio returned to WWE programming on Friday night’s episode of SmackDown. Mysterio resumed his feud with Santos Escobar by assisting Carlito in defeating Escobar in a street fight.
After Angel and Humberto of Legado del Fantasma were involved in the match, Mysterio stepped in as backup. Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro attempted to even the odds, but were thwarted by Legado del Fantasma.
Mysterio then walked out to the stage on crutches. After initially pretending he was unable to compete, Mysterio utilized the crutches as a weapon against Angel and Humberto.
Carlito spit an apple in the face of Escobar during a confrontation with Mysterio. Wilde and Del Toro defeated Angel and Humberto, Mysterio hit Escobar with a 619, and Carlito pushed Escobar through a table to win.
The LWO (Carlito, Mysterio, Wilde, Del Toro, and Zelina Vega) rejoiced together following the bout.
Last November, Mysterio underwent surgery for a damaged meniscus. Prior to surgery, Mysterio had been working in pain for months. His predicted recovery time was 6-8 weeks following surgery. On February 16, Dave Meltzer announced that Mysterio was close to returning and would be back in a few weeks.
