Super Bowl parade by the Kansas City Chiefs left one person dead and twenty-two injured after gunfire…..
It only took seconds to go from joy to fear.
Horrifying photos have shown how the Kansas City Chiefs’ victorious Super Bowl Parade became chaotic as gunfire broke out.
The horrific incident that occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, just seconds after the team, which included Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, departed the stage, has left at least one person dead and 29 others injured.
Horrifying video showed the chaotic scene after the shooting as terrified spectators fled for their lives.
An armed man was seen being bravely tackled to the ground by groups of supporters, and according to police, three gunmen have been taken into custody, albeit it is yet unknown who they are.
Unverified stories suggest that some kids may have also been shot during the sad celebration and were taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital, which is located nearby.
According to reports from Kansas City Fire, out of the injured, five were classified as “serious,” three as “critical,” and one as having non-life-threatening wounds.
Up to a million people were anticipated to have flocked to Kansas City for the parade, but police had to flee the train station as large crowds raced away in fear as soon as the bullets were fired.
A man appeared to try to run away from the mob during the chaotic scenes outside the station, but was attacked and pushed to the ground by many men.
Since Missouri allows open carry, it’s probable that many of the spectators were armed as well.
‘We got him – we got the gun!’ said the soldiers as they brought the suspected attacker down.
Another man, dressed in crimson Hoodie was also seen being taken into custody, though it’s not clear if he was a part of the shooting.
Approximately two hours after the shooting, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves told a press conference that officers immediately moved to stop the gunmen.
“We appreciate that officers embraced danger and ran toward it,” she remarked.
“I’m upset about what transpired today.” Graves went on, “People should expect a safe environment,” pointing out that there were more than 800 law enforcement officers positioned at the procession.
All establishments in the neighborhood are currently being cleared by officials.
Quinton Lucas, the mayor of Kansas City, said he was inside the Union Station when the gunmen opened fire. He complimented the gunmen but did not clarify if he saw them.
The shooting unfolded on the sixth anniversary of the Parkland shooting, when 17 people were killed and 17 others were injured.
Police said they were releasing all of those inside Union Station around 15 minutes after the shooting unfolded, but ordered crowds to remain away from the area.
Around an hour after the shooting, people inside the nearby Westin Hotel were ordered to take shelter as police raced toward the hotel.
Officers cornered an armed person inside an armed parking garage between the Westin Hotel and Union Station, reports KC Star reporter Glenn Rice. It is not clear if this armed person was involved in the parade shooting.
The live broadcast on KSHB 41 showed crowds outside Union Station, where the parade finished, rapidly dispersing with some jumping barriers to make a hasty getaway.
Presenters said that members of the crowd were telling them to get down and people were rushing indoors.
They added that crew members had said they heard a number of loud noises before the fans began fleeing the scene near the World War One museum and memorial.
