GOOD NEWS: Justin Fields just siged a 3 years contrant after the…..
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers may be taking a drastic stance with their quarterback situation this offseason.
During his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, Schefter stated that Pittsburgh “gonna go out and get some type of quarterback.” He mentioned veteran options like Ryan Tannehill and Russell Wilson before mentioning head coach Mike Tomlin, who “is a big fan” of Justin Fields.
While acknowledging that 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett will face fierce competition for the starting job, Tomlin informed reporters in January that he plans to maintain Pickett in that position.
Few people will be surprised if a new player is in charge of the offense by Week 1 of 2024, even in spite of the coach’s contradictory remarks.
During the course of 12 starts in his second season, Pickett passed for 2,070 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions. The passing game appeared to improve almost instantly when Mason Rudolph started at center to finish the season, which was not promising.
That being said, the excitement surrounding any quarterback change may have diminished upon learning who Tomlin had hired as his offensive coordinator.
It seems sense that Arthur Smith would supervise Tannehill’s comeback with the Tennessee Titans, so a reunion between the two would be appealing. In general, his arrival suggests that the team will probably rely more on the rushing game than a game-changing quarterback.
Team president Art Rooney II told KDKA’s Bob Pompeani he believes a “strong running game as a foundation” can help to open up the aerial attack:
Although Fields would be more expensive to acquire than older retreads like Tannehill or Wilson, there is still some benefit to having him. It appears that the 24-year-old has a significant fan base in Steel City as well.
With Sunday night’s conclusion of Super Bowl LVIII, the NFL offseason has just begun. In the next weeks, Pittsburgh’s quarterback hunt is sure to change.
