    Gerwyn Price blames ‘pathetic’ conditions as he quits mid-match at Players Championship in Wigan

    Former world darts champion Gerwyn Price withdrew halfway through a third-round match at the Players Championship in Wigan after what he claimed were “absolutely pathetic conditions”.

    Price was trailing 4-2 on legs against Brendan Dolan in a best-of-11-legs encounter when he forfeited the match at Robin Park Tennis Centre, with Dolan handed a bye into the next round.

    The Welshman later wrote on Instagram: “Absolutely pathetic conditions, travel all the way to Wigan to play in a professional game and we have to play in less than amateur conditions.

    “Since I’ve never given up in a game, I’m out tomorrow too.” I’m devastated because I rely so much on these occasions and my game was excellent today.”

    Price did not go into detail as to why he thought the playing circumstances were so subpar. On Tuesday, the second Players Championship event will be held at the same location.
    According to a Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) spokesman who talked with Sky Sports, Gerwyn left the premises right away after deciding not to finish his match against Brendan Dolan. We recognize he thought the location was chilly.”

    Price had defeated Karel Sedlacek in the final-leg decider before pulling out, and he had also defeated Matthew Dennant with an average of 111 to make it to the final 32.
