Raiders Lose Coach Simmons to the Commanders
The Las Vegas Raiders have lost Coach Jason Simmons who served as defensive pass game coordinator and defensive back coach to the Washington Commanders.
An additional member of the coaching staff is leaving the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jason Simmons, the former defensive backs coach and defensive pass game coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders, is leaving the team to take a job with the Washington Commanders, where he will once again play defensive pass game coordinator.
After serving as the Carolina Panthers’ defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach in 2020 and 2021, Simmons was hired by the Raiders during the 2022 offseason.
Prior to Carolina, Simmons spent nine seasons with the Green Bay Packers in a variety of positions, including assistant special teams coach (2016–2017–18), defensive backs coach (2019–20), secondary coach (2018–19), and defensive assistant and coach (2011–2015–16). He co-coached with Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham in the 2018 season, which was Graham’s only season in Green Bay as linebackers coach and run game coordinator.
Prior to starting as a coach, Simmons spent ten seasons as an NFL player. After being chosen in the fifth round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Simmons played defensive back for the team for four seasons. The Houston Texans were his team for the next six seasons.

Having assisted in leading a defense that concluded the 2023 regular season ranked ninth in scoring defense
(19.5 points allowed per game), Simmons will be leaving Las Vegas on a high note. He will also be leaving the Raiders with a much-improved secondary that has a ton of potential heading into the 2024 NFL season.
