Announcement:J. Windass, announce resignation and leaving Wednesday today….
Josh Windass explains why he does something that fans always question
Josh Windass has explained what he does that makes Sheffield Wednesday fans think he doesn’t ‘care’.
Josh Windass joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Wigan Athletic in 2020 and made nine appearances before his stay was made permanent.
The attacker has established himself as a key player for The Owls in the years that have followed, netting a total of 37 goals and providing 17 assists in all competitions.
Windass’ most notable season came last time out, where he scored 12 goals in League One and bagged an extra-time winner to claim promotion to the Championship in May.
The 30-year-old has continued to play an important role under Danny Rohl and hit an impressive milestone for Sheffield Wednesday in December, reaching 50 goal contributions for the club.
Windass’ form over Christmas has meant he has already climbed to 54 contributions – claiming four goals and an assist in seven games since the start of December.
While Windass has solidified his spot as a fan favourite at Hillsborough over the years, one thing fans may have noticed is his celebrations – or lack of.
The former Rangers man has now addressed the perception that his minor celebrations mean he doesn’t ‘care’.

Speaking to The Star, Windass said: “I’ve scored a lot of important goals since I came here, and bearing in mind some people still think I’m a striker, I’ve scored pretty consistently from the position that I play. I’m not here to blow my own trumpet, but I do think that sometimes perception is a big part of things.

“The way that I celebrate goals, I’m not always the one at the front kissing the badge or beating my chest – I’m quite reserved in that. I’m loud and I say stupid stuff sometimes, but yeah, I’m not always the one banging my chest going crazy. That’s just not me. I’m not saying lads who do do that are bad, I think it’s brilliant when that’s the way they are.
“But I think with me it gives a perception that I don’t care or whatever, but perception is not the reality and I know that – so that’s fine.”
Should Josh Windass stay at Sheffield Wednesday?
Josh Windass’ contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and links to the MLS have left his future in doubt.
Given how important he has been under Danny Rohl and how he is clearly loving working under the German, it seems like a daft idea to move him on at this point.
Whether Sheffield Wednesday are in the Championship or League One next term, Windass still has an important role to play. He only turned 30 years old this month, so surely still has plenty to contribute.
The Owls should offer him fresh terms and keep hold of him for another year, otherwise he could be joining a long list of players leaving on a free transfer in six months time.
