âEmbarrassingâ: Tigers rule on starâs controversial deleted post
Wests Tigers wonât sanction five-eighth Adam Doueihi after he explained the reasoning behnid an an offensive social media post.
Doueihi was spoken to by the club after a comment on an English Premier League post explaining to fans âHow to speak about LGBTQ+ inclusionâ.
The post suggested it would be helpful for fans to be an ally and discuss inclusion in positive terms, such as ârepresentation on the pitch is so importantâ, rather than saying things like âsport is about performance, we shouldnât care about identityâ.
Doueihi commented âembarrassing postâ under the graphic, gathering thousands of likes before it was deleted.
AAP reported he told the club he felt the post was âdictating what people could sayâ which he found âembarrassingâ.
But he deleted the post because he did not realise it came across as homophobic.
News Corp reported the Tigers had decided not to sanction a âremorsefulâ Doueihi.
âIt wasnât Adamâs intention to hurt anyone. Weâve spoken to him and no further action will be taken,â the club said.
âThe club is committed to being an inclusive place for all, we welcome people of all parts of society to be part of our club. Our mission statement as a club is to enrich lives of community and that we are all inclusive.â
Doueihi has previously been involved in a gay rights controversy when he supported a Sydney Catholic girls school banning students bringing female dates to the Year 12 formal.
He suffered an ACL injury in April.
