There have been nearly 20 players to depart from Florida State since the conclusion of the season. The majority of those former Seminoles have found new homes ahead of the spring semester as they continue their college careers.
On Friday evening, former FSU defensive tackle Dennis Briggs announced that he was grad-transferring to Illinois to play out his final season of eligibility. Briggs is in the process of acquiring a waiver for a seventh season of eligibility after missing the majority of 2021 due to a leg injury.
The Florida native spent six years with the Seminoles after signing with the program under former head coach Willie Taggart. He bounced between the inside and outside of the defensive line, taking on whatever role was asked of him at Florida State.
Briggs was the longest-tenured member of the roster prior to his decision to transfer. He finished his time with the Seminoles with 78 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and four pass deflections in 49 appearances, with ten starts.
Illinois finished 5-7 under third-year head coach Bret Bielema last season. Briggs will have an opportunity to garner the guaranteed playing time that he’s searching for.
Florida State will field a talented group of interior defensive linemen that includes redshirt junior Joshua Farmer, redshirt junior Darrell Jackson, redshirt junior Grady Kelly, redshirt sophomore Daniel Lyons, redshirt freshman KJ Sampson, true freshman D’Nas White, and true freshman Jamorie Flagg.
