The Bengals have created some big plays out of those calls recently.

CINCINNATI — Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan discussed a few positive things that the coaching staff can take into next season on offense and one thing stood out: The screen game.

That portion of the offense has produced some great results powered by Chase Brown in the back half of the season.

“I think our screen game was really productive really the whole second half of the year and it hadn’t been that productive even last year,” Callahan said this week. “So that’s an element that I think really helped our offense throughout the second half of the season that I think should hopefully be a big piece moving forward.

“I think there’s a time and a place, I mean we’ve obviously dipped our toe more into some of the 12 personnel stuff as of late. Some of that schematic versus whatever teams we’re playing. It gives us a schematic advantage in some way, shape or form. But there’s a place for more mix of personnel (with Joe Burrow back next season). I think they’ve done a nice job of that probably over the last six games.”

Cincinnati kept defenses honest with a mix of different screens over the past two months. It coincided with the offensive line getting more and more chemistry as a rare five-man Bengals unit on track to start every game of a season.

Brown should continue to grow as a receiver as well, giving Cincinnati another wrinkle for Joe Burrow’s elite processing skills to utilize.
