Admittedly, it was a little tough.
1. You made your first catch in 2018. How many yards was that reception? Who threw it and who were the other three wide receivers on the field?
Drake Stoops: Kyler Murray. I caught it on a hitch route for about 6 or 7 yards. I have no idea (who the other receivers were on the field).
Answer: It was an 8-yard catch against Florida Atlantic. Lee Morris, A.D. Miller and Jalen Robinson were on
Follow-up question: What did it mean to catch that first ball?
Stoops: It was cool, being a freshman and a walk-on and just getting a chance to catch a ball. We were up big, but it was definitely cool to get in and for them to put that trust in me to go out and try to make a play.
2. In your first 18 games, you only had more than two catches in one game. Who was the opponent?
Stoops: South Dakota.
Answer: Kansas State, the first game of the 2020 season. You had three catches for 93 yards, as well as your first touchdown.
Follow-up: Can you describe your first touchdown?
Stoops: I remember just getting up. I’d caught the ball at the 1-yard line, I saw the red and I dove in. I was like ‘Wow, I just scored a touchdown.’ I remember celebrating with Marvin Mims and Spencer Rattler. That was definitely a surreal moment for me.”
3. You had 486 receiving yards over the last four games. You’ve caught passes in 28 games. How many games did it take you from the start of your career to hit 486 yards?
Stoops: I have no idea. That’s a tough one.
Answer: It took 22 games. (Stoops: “And I got it in the last four games?”). You had three catches for 57 yards against Texas Tech.
Follow-up: How beneficial was it for you to learn and grow as a young receiver at OU?
Stoops: It was huge, just getting a feel for the speed of the game and everything that’s going on. It was huge, getting to learn from others. Through experience and failure, you get better and you grown. I think this year showed just tremendous growth over the course of the first five years.
4. You have catches in four bowl games during your career. Which game do you have the most receiving yards in a bowl game?
Stoops: Was it the Alamo Bowl?
Answer: It was against LSU in the Peach Bowl, two catches for 28 yards. You had two catches for 27 yards against Florida State in the Cheez-It Bowl, two for 21 against Florida in the Cotton Bowl and one for six against Oregon in the Alamo Bowl.
Follow-up: In that Alamo Bowl win, your one catch was a touchdown with your dad Bob Stoops coaching on the sideline. What was that moment like?
Stoops: It was fun to share that with him. It was the first game I’ve ever played for him and the last game I’ve ever played for him. I was just trying to make him proud, help the team and also make
5. What team did you have the most catches and receiving yards against during your OU career?
Stoops: West Virginia?
Answer: Oklahoma State. You had 20 catches for 253 yards. West Virginia was second. You had 19 catches for 229 against West Virginia. You also averaged the most yards per catch against Kansas State, where you had six catches for 129 yards (21.5 yards per reception).
Follow-up: What was your favorite Big 12 memory and why?
Stoops: It probably would be Texas and the win in quadruple overtime (53-45 win in 2020), catching a touchdown to almost win the game and then Tre Brown picked it to really seal the game. That was really a surreal moment for me, being a Sooners fan always. Just the magnitude of that game.
