The Pittsburgh Steelers offensive woes have been a constant theme throughout the season.
The Steelers are 27th among the 32 NFL teams in both points scored and total yardage. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada was fired three weeks ago but the Steelers have managed just 44 points combined in three games with running backs coach Eddie Faulkner devising the gameplan and quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan calling the plays.
However, the defense is also starting to show cracks. While the Steelers are seventh in the league in points allowed, they are 21st in total defense.
The Steelers are coming off back-to-back embarrassing losses to a pair of two-win teams in the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots at home. The Cardinals and Patriots combined to score touchdowns on all five trips inside the Steelers’ red zone..
We have got to get off the field in those tough circumstances,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said during his weekly news conference. “We have to hold people to field goals. We have to keep them out in the end zone. We have to play better red zone defense than we have in recent weeks.”
Yet, justifiable so, the offense is still what concerns the Steelers the most.
Quarterback Kenny Pickett will miss his second straight game while recovering from ankle surgery. Mitch Trubisky will again fill as the starter.
