The Los Angeles Rams are facing a lawsuit following a violent altercation during a recent game that resulted in a security guard allegedly suffering a brain bleed. 71-year-old security guard, Robert Leahey, has filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Rams, claiming that the NFL organization’s negligence led to him suffering “catastrophic” injuries during a fan brawl at SoFi Stadium.
The incident occurred during the Rams vs. Raiders “Thursday Night Football” game in December 2022. A large brawl erupted between fans of both teams inside the stadium, and Leahey intervened in an effort to restore peace.
However, according to the lawsuit, he was pushed by other guards, causing him to fall down a set of concrete stairs. The lawsuit states that Leahey hit his head multiple times while falling down the stairs and was further injured when a beer can was thrown at his head during the altercation.
As a result of the incident, Leahey sought medical attention at a nearby hospital on December 9, where he was diagnosed with severe and catastrophic brain injuries, including a subdural hematoma with brain bleeding.
Since the alleged assault, Leahey has been struggling with speech and vision difficulties, as well as persistent headaches, which have rendered him unable to work.
The security guard is seeking unspecified damages
In response to the incident, Leahey is pursuing legal action against the Rams, seeking unspecified damages for the physical and financial toll he claims to have endured. He is quoted as saying: “The injuries I sustained have had a significant impact on my daily life, and I am seeking justice for the pain and suffering I have experienced as a result of this incident.”
The lawsuit highlights the serious repercussions of the altercation, shedding light on the physical and emotional toll it has taken on Leahey. The Rams have yet to publicly comment on the lawsuit. However, the team’s victory in the game played that day is mentioned, with the Rams winning 17-16.
In the midst of this legal battle, the focus remains on the well-being of Robert Leahey and the aftermath of the unfortunate incident at SoFi Stadium. The outcome of the lawsuit will determine the accountability of the Los Angeles Rams in ensuring the safety and security of all individuals present at their games.
