Deal report: Nottingham forest announce will are lucky to sign a £30.m Switzerland star today….
Forest ‘class act’ analysed’ after signing this summer, Felipe has praised him
Nottingham Forest were active in the transfer market during the summer and they might have struck gold with Nicolas Dominguez coming in.
The summer took some time to get going for Forest, with seven of the new recruits signing on transfer deadline day.
Forest were beaten 3-2 by West Ham before the international break and domestic action returns on Saturday.
With the third international break of the season upon us, we’ve assessed Forest midfielder Dominguez and appraised his time at the club so far.
Dominguez to Forest: What’s the background?
It’s fair to say that this deal came out of the blue a little bit. Forest were trying desperately to sign Ibrahim Sangare and then they landed Dominguez as well.
Forest made a play for the Argentine when it emerged that Bologna wanted to land Remo Freuler on a season-long loan.
The Reds paid just £8 million for Dominguez, with Switzerland star Freuler heading to Serie A on a loan deal.
How has he looked in the first two months?
It’s fair to say that Dominguez looks like an amazing signing already. Clinton Morrison called him ‘neat and tidy’ after he scored against Brentford and that’s a fair assessment of his style.
MORE FOREST STORIES
The 25-year-old puts himself about and he simply tries his hardest to cover every blade of grass when he’s called upon.
During the last two away matches that the player has played, he’s perhaps not covered himself in glory for the Reds.
Against Liverpool, Dominguez gave the ball away with his first three touches. Then at West Ham, he was called careless by Don Goodman for a misplaced pass that led to a goal after just four minutes.
There have been extremely good moments though. Darren Fletcher believes that Dominguez simply has to play and it does appear as though there is more to come from him.
What does the future hold for Dominguez at Forest?
Dominguez signed a permanent deal at Forest. Although Freuler only went on loan to Bologna, Forest did actually pay a transfer fee for the Argentine and he’s under contract until 2028.
He will be champing at the bit to get back into the Argentina setup. The player helped them win the Copa America previously but missed out on the World Cup victory.
Charlie McParland called the player a ‘class act’ during an interview with Notts TV and quite clearly he’s a big fan of the player.
The challenge staring the player in the face is consistency. Dominguez has largely been impressive on home soil for Forest but his errors against Liverpool and West Ham will need to be abolished from his game.
Statistically speaking: Nicolas Dominguez
According to Who Scored, Dominguez sits top of the charts when it comes to Forest players for successful tackles. He sits on 26, with fellow new signing Sangare sitting on 25.

In a passing sense, Dominguez is pretty steady too. He’s completed 12 long balls in his seven appearances, whilst he’s made 203 successful short passes.
Dominguez has also found his way to the goal. He scored the team’s equaliser against Brentford in a 1-1 draw and perhaps should have had at least one more to his name.
The Argentine also has a single yellow card to his name during his time at Forest.
The verdict
It’s hard not to like a player like Dominguez when he plays for your club. He’s tireless with his running and although that’s a mandatory requirement, he can also play football too.
Dominguez is still learning his trade in England and the Premier League can be an unforgiving league. Still, he’s looked good in his seven games to date and there will be more to come.
It seems as though he’s a useful addition to the dressing room in a leadership sense too. Felipe has praised Dominguez since he came in and certainly, that bodes well too.
Dominguez looks like a really good find for Forest. There have been some eerie moments when he’s had possession but in large it looks as though Forest have got good value for money with this addition to the squad.
