Learn more about the opposition as the Jaguars get ready to play the 49ers in Week 10.
Ryan Bainbridge of Niners Nation joined us to discuss the San Francisco 49ers (-3) and the Jacksonville Jaguars (+3) as they get ready to meet them in Week 10.
First question: Every club is concerned about injuries at this point in the season. What’s new with the injured 49ers, Trent Williams and Deebo Samuel included?
San Francisco really needed the bye week, but the Jags also benefited from an extra week off and an opportunity to rehabilitate. Inebo After missing the previous two games due to a hairline fracture in his shoulder, Samuel is “on track to play” on Sunday and should be fully involved in practice this week. Despite playing through a high ankle sprain sustained in the loss to Cleveland, Trent Williams knew that San Francisco’s prospects depended on their battle with Myles Garrett. The organization is hopeful the 35-year-old can get in at least a little practice before heading to Jacksonville, but his availability is still uncertain. Both starting guard Aaron Banks and wide receiver Ray-Ray McLoud did not play on Wednesday due to toe injuries. It is concerning that the left side of the Niners’ offensive line might not be available for this game.
Q2: Tell us what Niners Nation thinks of Brock Purdy; here is a safe place.
I believe that Brock Purdy has Niners Nation feeling cautiously optimistic. Since he hasn’t yet begun the entire season of games, I believe that making any firm judgments about his performance just now would be overly dramatic. It wouldn’t be overly dramatic, though, to state that he is the best quarterback Kyle Shanahan has had in his role as head coach in San Francisco, and the majority of supporters think he has the skill and composure to lead this talented team to the Super Bowl. There has been a lot of good performance from the quarterback position even throughout the losing skid. This fandom isn’t naive. We are aware that he lacks Mahomes’ or Allen’s (or Lawrence’s) physical characteristics. However, he will take his chances in tight coverage and is aggressive when pushing the ball downfield—something we haven’t seen much of in recent seasons. When it comes to athletics and mobility, he is more adept than Jimmy G ever was. While Niners Nation is generally pleased, they are aware that Purdy’s limitations will be exacerbated if the organization’s ultimate aim is not accomplished.
Q3: What is the difference between the defense under Steve Wilks and the defense under DeMeco this year?
