The Chicago White Sox are a terrible squad that is trying to improve. In 2023, they went 61-101, good for the fourth-worst record in the league. The White Sox may be looking to trade some of their most valuable players. Dylan Cease, who they intended to trade before the deadline, is at the top of the list. Now it appears that he may be on the market again. The Red Sox want to obtain a solid return for Cease, who is a superb pitcher. However, there are a few clubs to which the White Sox should not trade Cease. Transferring him to one of these three teams would be disastrous:
1. Minnesota Twins
Dylan Cease on the Minnesota Twins would not be good for the Chicago White Sox.
The Chicago White Sox do not need to trade Dylan Cease to the Minnesota Twins, their biggest division foe. They should not transfer him to the number one team. Of course, you want to get the best possible price for him, but sending him to the reigning AL Central winners isn’t ideal.
They had a successful postseason season, but there is still work to be done. Adding another starter may be toward the top of their priorities list as well, so Cease would be ideal. It simply would not be fun to see him pitch for the Minnesota Twins. You know he’d come back to Chicago every year for the rest of his career and dominate the White Sox. They don’t want to see it.
Seeing Dylan Cease on the Cleveland Guardians would be so wrong.
Fans of the White Sox have been through a lot. Last season, they had to endure the agony of seeing Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez play for the Cleveland Guardians .At the very least, they weren’t going to the playoffs in the first place, so it wasn’t as horrible as it could have been. Allowing them to begin a season with Dylan Cease, on the other hand, would be a disaster.
Cleveland is a pitching factory so it would undoubtedly be beneficial for Cease and his career since they know how to help guys reach their maximum potential. It would be terrible from the perspective of a fan.For the same reasons that Minnesota, witnessing Cease play for them would be a disaster. He’d return to Chicago dressed as a Guardian and just shove. He’d also most likely realize his full potential and be a contender for the Cy Young Award.
It would be so evident that the Guardians are receiving an All-Star for cheap from their bad division foe. This must not happen.
3. New York Yankees
The Chicago White Sox should not give Dylan Cease to the New York Yankees.
The New York Yankees are one of those organizations that is interested in every player that becomes available through trade or free agency. They don’t get them all, but their proposals are always competitive. It would be unpleasant to regard Cease as the next in that lengthy line. New York, like the other teams, is a team that will most likely see him become a star. Nobody wants their players to join the Yankees and dominate them.
Because the Yankees aren’t in the AL Central, they’d see Cease less than if he were traded to a competitor, but they’d still see him enough to be unpleasant.Instead, it would be preferable for the White Sox to send their best trade asset to a team that they will not encounter very often. A good National League team would suffice.
It would be extremely frustrating to see him on one of these teams. It’s bad enough that the Sox are in a position where they have to move him, so this would exacerbate the situation. Regardless matter where, the Sox should get a fair return.
