The Pittsburgh Steelers have turned their attention to wide receiver George Pickens after the team’s victory in Week 9 due to some strange social media activities.
Former teammates are now giving him advice, and one of his current teammates is preparing to work with him to alleviate some of his aggravation. Former Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward was the first to weigh in on the situation.
“George is still a young man,” Ward said to CBS Sports. “Extremely gifted.” It’s the ball he wants. Not always in a bad way, though. I respect receivers who want to have an impact on the game, but you have to remember that it’s not about you and keep things in perspective. There is a lot of action in the passing game. Even though you’re wide open, protection falters, causing the quarterback to scramble and denying you the chance.
Chad Ochocinco, a former Cincinnati Bengal, immediately followed on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast.”Pickens, you’re easily one of the best,” Johnson remarked. “If they use you correctly, you can easily be one of the top five in the league, but when your opportunities come your way, and I love you, you have to take advantage of them.” Because of the quarterback’s inconsistency. When the ball comes your way, you have to do everything you can.”
Allen Robinson, like the rest of the Steelers locker room, seems unconcerned by Pickens’ social media posts. What he does want to help with is alleviating the 22-year-old’s frustrations in-game when he doesn’t perform well.
“We’ve continually talked to him and communicated to him,” Robinson stated. “He’s a significant player in this league and is going to attract a significant amount of attention from defenses trying to take him away.”
Within the Steelers organization, there is a perception that Pickens’s issues are not a problem and don’t appear to be developing into one. Things should settle down with Robinson and others supporting him through difficult times.
