Official Newcastle United statement for the match between Newcastle and Arsenal: Newcastle United, its players and staff will pay tribute to military personnel past and present during the match play this weekend against Arsenal as part of the club’s Armistice Day commemorations.
The Premier League clash with Mikel Arteta’s men is the closest home match to Remembrance Sunday, where supporters will join the club in remembering all those who lost their lives in the conflict.
BEFORE THE MATCH When the players take to the field they will be joined by local service officers from the 5th Battalion of the Royal Artillery Regiment based at Newcastle upon Tyne, RAF Boulmer in Northumberland and HMS Calliope, including local offices at Gate Head.
Wor Flags will also have a special performance at the Gallowgate End before kick-off.
MINUTES OF SILENCE Fans are encouraged to arrive at their seats early to join the two groups of players, staff and officials for a minute of silence before the match begins.
During silence, bugles will play The Last Post.
WAR MEMORIAL AT ST.
JAMES’ PARK Fans wanting to pay their respects to the armed forces can do so at their own pace at the War Memorial Gardens in St.
James, opposite Alder Sweeney Memorial Gardens at Milburn Stand.
Bearing the inscription ‘Let us not forget’, the memorial bears the names of 23 former Newcastle United players who died in the First and Second World Wars.
Poppy T-SHIRTS Players will wear commemorative poppy shirts throughout the match.
These will then be auctioned to support the Royal British Legion.
