Every year, the top offensive player in each league at every position on the diamond receives the Silver Slugger Award. The award has also been given to the utility player who hits the most frequently in each league starting in 2022.
Here are the 2023 Silver Slugger award nominees for each position, ranging from well-known players with many awards to up-and-coming rookies vying for their first. The winners will be revealed on MLB Network on Thursday, November 9 at 6 p.m. ET.
With 17 home runs and 82 RBIs for the AL pennant champions, Lowe, the current Silver Slugger at first base in the AL, had another fantastic season. All three of the other players would be first-time winners. With an.330 batting average and a.932 OPS this season, Díaz claimed the AL batting title. With 31 home runs, Torkelson topped all first basemen in the AL. And Casas, the breakout rookie, hit 24 home runs with an OPS of.857.
After leading the AL in 2023 with 185 hits and 122 runs scored, in addition to his 29 home runs, 14 steals, and 100 RBIs, Semien appears to be the favorite to win his second career Silver Slugger Award (which he previously won with the Blue Jays in 2021). In his first season with the Angels, Drury, a utility player who took home a Silver Slugger in the National League previous year, hit 26 home runs and drove in 83 runs. With 25 home runs, 13 stolen bases, and 68 RBIs, Torres batted.273.
