During their bye week, the Detroit Lions made two roster changes on Thursday. Linebacker Trevor Nowaske from the practice squad was signed to the 53-man roster while running back Devine Ozigbo was dismissed.
David Montgomery may be nearing his recovery from the rib injury he sustained in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, based on Ozigbo’s waiver. With only Craig Reynolds, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Montgomery on the roster right now, the Lions have a very small group of running backs, particularly if Montgomery’s injury is still a worry.
Waivers will now apply to Ozigbo. He’s probably a candidate to rejoin the practice squad after clearing waivers. Prior to “Monday Night Football” against the Las Vegas Raiders, he was added to the 53-man roster after spending the majority of September on the practice squad.

Understanding Nowaske’s promotion from the practice squad is a little more difficult. There are now six linebackers on the Lions’ roster: four
Nowaske is a rookie from Saginaw Valley State who was not drafted. The 235-pound, 6-foot-3 linebacker has outstanding physical attributes.
In his final two seasons combined, Nowaske recorded 182 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and five interceptions in college. He was also quite productive. During his three Lions preseason games, Nowaske recorded seven tackles and a pass defense.
