The 49ers still have two games remaining against Seattle, and those will be important contests.
The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers will once again have to battle it out for the NFC West crown.
The two teams will meet in three weeks and then again in one week.
Both teams were aggressive in making acquisitions throughout the season.
The 49ers traded for Randy Gregory, while the Seahawks signed Frank Clark.
Neither measurement is final.
Sure enough, Seattle pulled off a sensational trade Monday morning when the Seahawks sent a second- and fifth-round pick to the New York Giants in exchange for defensive tackle Leonard Williams.
The move bolsters an already solid defensive line and gives the Seahawks another pass rusher while taking pressure off nose tackle Jarran Reed.
Seattle has some threats along the defensive line and that will only help.
Blocking Dre’Mont Jones and Reed alone will be difficult for the 49ers, but Jones and Reed combined with Williams will pose a significant challenge to an inexperienced Niners offensive line.
Williams ranks 12th in winning percentage among all interior defensive linemen, one spot below Arik Armstead so you know how well he’s played this season.
The Giants have agreed to pay a large portion of Williams’ salary, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, which explains why Seattle appears to be overpaid.
This could be the first of many deals around the NFL.
