After a terrible start to his career, Will Levis was eventually granted his first NFL start for the Titans. He was
in the second round of the draft and was the third-choice quarterback for his new team.
Following Ryan Tannehill’s injury, the Tennessee Titans gave rookie quarterback Will Levis his first NFL start, and the rookie did not let the team down.
In the team’s opening drive versus the Atlanta Falcons, Levis was nearly flawless after his first ten throws, of which eight were completed and the remaining two were intercepted by receivers. DeAndre Hopkins scored a long touchdown after one was caught for good measure.
He did not let up from then on, throwing a total of three touchdown passes to Hopkins and one to Nick Westbrook-Ikhiene. Though Levis was let down by his receivers, who had four rather straightforward drops on the day, it could have gone even better.
Despite the fact that Tannehill is anticipated to return for their upcoming “Thursday Night Football” matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Levis may now be in position to take over the starting slot since the Titans have struggled this season under their experienced quarterback.
After a terrible start to his career, the former Kentucky five-star prospect had to wait until Week 8 to have his first play in the league. This represents a total turnaround for him. Levis’ surprise selection in the second round of the NFL Draft came as a surprise because many had expected he would go in the first round, with some even projecting he may go first overall.
One team that was thought to have a chance to take him in the top five was the Titans, but they passed on him in the first round and were able to select him in the second.
Levis was not able to surpass Tannehill or former third-round pick Malik Willis, and he was officially labeled the third-choice quarterback after having to persuade his offensive coaches throughout the offseason. Willis, who was named the backup earlier in the season, relieved Tannehill in their most recent game since the latter was having trouble and Levis appeared to be taking his place.
After an amazing 2021 season with Kentucky under former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Liam Coen, Levis’ qualities have been evident.
Due to his large body, powerful arm, and passing prowess, Levis ran a pro-style offense that season and was compared to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. He was unfortunate not to be selected a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
However, Levis was unable to duplicate that following a difficult 2022 with a faltering offensive line, and he did not perform enough to gain the confidence of NFL scouts, which led to his drop to the second round.
