Brock Purdy, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, might be able to play in Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals if he passes the concussion protocol. Purdy was allowed to take part in full team training on Friday after being allowed to participate in restricted practice on Thursday.
Although Purdy’s status for Sunday’s game is officially labeled as uncertain, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan clarified that if he clears the last round of the concussion protocol on Saturday, he may play. That is the final task he needs to complete. One more step to go… Shanahan clarified, “He just needs to pass that tomorrow. He was full go today.”
A neurological expert who is not affiliated with the Niners will also need to assess Purdy and grant permission for full contact. For Purdy to play in Sunday’s game, both the team doctors and the independent neurological consultant must concur that the quarterback’s concussion has healed.
