Portuguese coach Roberto Martinez has hailed Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as a “manager’s dream” for his tactical versatility.
Fernandes has been a key player for club and country for several seasons, with the 29-year-old notching five goals and eight assists for the national team during the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign and more Four more goals for United this year.

Although considered one of the best central attacking midfielders in world football, Fernandes is regularly used by club and national team coaches in a variety of positions.
As well as playing as a number 10, the Portuguese star also starts matches as a deep-lying midfielder and sometimes even as a right striker for United.
Fernandes was used by Martinez on the right of a three-man midfield in Portugal’s impressive 5-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday night, registering a goal and an assist in the victory.
Speaking to Record before the win, Martinez was keen to stress the importance of having players like Fernandes in a team.
“Bruno Fernandes is a very good professional, a player with 7 assists [now 8 assists after the win against Bosnia], an intelligent player, adapted to the qualities of teammates and has a lot of flexibility in tactics.
Bruno Fernandes is a dream to become a coach,” the boss explained.”He needs to be trained to understand
the concept of the game and have a high level of execution.
Technically, he has a vision of the game that I find to be of top quality and I really enjoy the work his.
He adapts to many positions, he brings organization, he brings balance, he is an important player for us.
”Fernandes will return to club action this weekend when Manchester United travel across the Pennines to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United in the Premier League.
