It’s been a great start to the Championship season for Ipswich Town and Kieran McKenna.
Tractor Boys have won nine of their opening 11 matches of the season and sit comfortably at the top of the table with leaders Leicester City.
Ipswich won promotion back to the second tier last season in excellent form and they have picked up where they left off last season.
Many may have thought that Ipswich had the potential to do well in this campaign, but they may not have expected them to do so well.
It looks like they and Leicester will be the league leaders this season, and the credit goes to McKenna and the players he has assembled.
One of the players to play a key role in recent weeks is defender Brandon Williams, who joined the club in the summer on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United.
How did Brandon Williams perform for Ipswich Town?
Williams’ future at Old Trafford is not looking promising so it was no surprise to see the defender leave the club on loan during the recent transfer window.
The full-back has lost form, so a move to Portman Road will be an opportunity for this player to prove his ability.
McKenna used his connections at Old Trafford to bring the defender to the club, and now, after 10 games on loan, Williams is showing his class.
The 23-year-old has only made five appearances, but two of those were in the last two matches and the defender has seized his opportunity.
He played very well as a right-back and even scored 2 times in the last 3 matches.
His goal against Preston showed his class, as he sprinted across the field with the ball before firing into the net as the Tractor Boys overcame the Lilywhites.
It is still very early in his loan spell, but all signs suggest he is doing very well at the club and McKenna will be delighted to complete the deal.
Do Ipswich Town fans think the club should look to sign Brandon Williams on a permanent basis?
So, with Williams seemingly improving as the weeks go by, here we asked FLW fan expert Ipswich Henry if he thinks the club should look to sign him on a permanent basis with this player this summer or not.
He told FLW:
“Brandon Williams with a long-term contract is exciting.
I don’t think this will be something we discover in January.
“I don’t think it necessarily works for all parties.
I think talking about Brandon, obviously I don’t know, but I imagine from his side he will want to have a successful loan spell and then want to look at his options.
That obviously doesn’t mean he’ll never go to Ipswich permanently, but I think for him, I think he needs a good spell in the Championship.
“I think some of the lower-level Premier League clubs are looking at him as a real option.
I think we put him back on the map, which is great because he’s had a quiet couple of seasons.
“Obviously his loan spell at Norwich was quite unsuccessful with Norwich being relegated, while Manchester United as a club are not really where they want to be at the moment.
I think he’ll figure out what he wants to do, but in saying that Ipswich are quite a success at the moment, probably the best they’ve had in the last 12 years, so a player With his contract expiring this summer he may want to sort out his future, and he seems to be enjoying his time, why wouldn’t you want to stay.
“But I think for him, for Ipswich, it worked, but I think for him and his game, I think he can wait until the end of the season and look at the options at that time because I’m sure he will have many opportunities.
” Whether at home, in the Premier League or abroad, he would certainly be suitable if he wanted to try abroad, but Ipswich would say yes, I think Brandon would say no at the moment.
Should Brandon Williams join Ipswich Town permanently?
It is likely that Williams will wait until the summer before deciding what he wants to do with his career, as he may want to continue at Manchester United.
However, his future may lie away from Old Trafford, so the question will be what happens next beyond this season.
If he continues to play as he is and Ipswich continue to perform and reach the Premier League, one could argue that there is a possibility that the relationship will continue beyond this season, but there is still plenty of football to play.
Play until then.
