Arsenal’s key player Bukayo Saka, who was replaced after just 34 minutes in his team’s 2-1 Champions League loss to Lens on Tuesday, may miss this weekend’s pivotal matchup with Premier League title rivals Manchester City.
Saka left on a limp in the middle of the week.
Before getting off the ball and requesting assistance, Saka appeared to be staggering around.
He was then replaced by Fabio Vieira, and his departure immediately raised questions about his readiness to play on Sunday.
Will Bukayo Saka be fit to face Man City?
Saka is a major question mark for this Sunday’s matchup between Arsenal and Man City.
Although there hasn’t been a specific update on his condition, Arteta has called the injury “a worry.”
Prior to the Gunners’ trip to Lens, the winger had left both games with an injury, but Arteta still chose to start his “Starboy” in Europe.
The gambit didn’t pay off, and after the game the Spaniard provided an update on Saka.
When asked if he regretted starting the England match, he responded, “No. He recently received a knock, yet he was unharmed by it.
“It was a back-heel, a move that can result in that kind of damage.
Saka has started 87 straight Premier League games, but he may no longer be available.
“Let’s see what the extent of it is, and then it’s too late,” he said. The most recent ones mainly consisted of blows.
“He actually hasn’t been missing games. The only break we provided him was last week’s Carabao Cup match against Brentford.
In the first half, he attempted to backheel a ball and felt a muscular pain. We had to remove him since it seemed awkward for him to continue.
“We have no other information. We worry since it was big enough for him to be unable to continue playing the game.
Saka’s remarkable record would come to an end if he were to sit out Arsenal’s pivotal match this coming weekend.
Since May 2021, he has started 87 straight Premier League games for the Gunners, a club record.
However, that lengthy streak of games may very well be what caused his injury, and he now risks missing the most important contest of the year.
