One of the team’s starters will be returning for the Premier League team.
The news that one of their players will be available for tonight’s Champions League match against Galatasaray has given Manchester United a lift.
What is the most recent Man United squad news?
The group stage match between the Red Devils and Okan Buruk’s team is slated to take place at Old Trafford this evening with kickoff set for 8 p.m. UK time. Erik ten Hag, though, will be without a number of his first-team stars.
In M16, injuries have forced out Sergio Reguilon, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Kobbie Mainoo, Amad, Donny Van De Beek, and Lisandro Martinez. Jadon Sancho has also recently been training separately from the group due to disciplinary issues stemming from his public criticism of the manager.
The Premier League heavyweights have also been without Antony since last month because the right-winger was granted a leave of absence to deal with legal allegations. However, after recently traveling back to the UK to participate in a voluntary police interview, he returned to the Carrington fields over the weekend in preparation for the eagerly anticipated match.
Will Antony be making a comeback for Man United?
In his pre-game news conference on Monday, Ten Hag acknowledged that it is extremely doubtful that any of the other injured players would be able to make a comeback. However, he did clarify that Antony is available for selection for tonight’s game against Galatasaray. He said, as cited by the official Man United website:
“Antony will be taken into account. His first day of team training was yesterday. After our final training session, we’ll make a choice. However, he will be taken into account, yes. The most likely piece of team news, in my opinion, is Antony dos Santos’ potential return.
Antony has scored how many goals?
Simply focusing on what he can do on the field, Antony’s availability will be a boost for Ten Hag. Since joining Man United from Ajax last summer, Antony has posted 11 contributions (eight goals and three assists) in 48 appearances, earning him the label of “top talent” by journalist Josh Bunting.
Even though the ball doesn’t always find the back of the net, the Brazilian, who is only 23 years old, consistently strives to create magic in the final third for himself and his teammates. He also ranks in the 96th percentile for shots.
Additionally, the Dutchman’s £200k-per-week earner is a versatile player who has played in five different positions across the field since the start of his career, including three front-line roles and two in the middle of the field. He is a great option to have in the facility in case any unforeseen injury cover is required elsewhere.
Given their massive absences, the Red Devils will definitely struggle to win, but anything is possible for the team at Old Trafford on matchday and with the support of their fans, especially at home.
