Latest Liverpool news: Dominik Szoboszlai has sent a bullish message to Man City, while Jürgen Klopp allegedly argues with Anfield authorities about one contract.
Liverpool is preparing for this weekend’s Premier League match against Tottenham. The Anfield administration and Jürgen Klopp are rumored to be at odds over a new contract, but Dominik Szoboszlai remains optimistic about the remainder of the season.
According to 90Min, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp wants the team to renew Thiago’s contract after it expires before the season. Thiago may be nearing the end of his Anfield career as he only signed a four-year contract when he came from Bayern Munich in 2020 for $31 million (£25 million/€29 million).
Senior authorities ‘are not convinced’ that Thiago deserves a new contract, in contrast to the manager, and they question if the Spaniard has contributed enough to earn one of the highest salaries at the club.
Thiago deal is what Jürgen Klopp wants, but certain officials object
The 32-year-old, who underwent hip surgery in May, has yet to appear for the club this season and has only started 51 of 120 Premier League games altogether since joining due to recurring fitness issues.
However, new negotiations will take place before January. Thiago informed the club that he had decided not to move in the summer despite offers from Saudi Arabia and Turkey. There is a “distinct” likelihood that the veteran will leave the club in the winter window, depending on how those negotiations turn out.
Dominik Szoboszlai predicts Man City will do well.
According to The Times, Liverpool player Dominik Szoboszlai has told his teammates that he expects them to triumph this season when they play Manchester City.
After moving from RB Leipzig for $77 million (£60 million/€70 million), Szoboszlai, who is currently in his first season of Premier League football, reportedly asked the players which games on the calendar they thought would be the most difficult. They chose games against Manchester United and City, but Szoboszlai predicted they would win all of them.
Liverpool is scheduled to visit the Etihad in late November. They are currently two points behind Pep Guardiola’s team in the Premier League standings. In spite of having a terrible 2022–23 season, it managed to defeat eventual treble-winner City 1-0 at Anfield despite losing that match 4–1 in April.
While this is true, Szoboszlai won’t experience the rivalry with Manchester United until the middle of December, when the Red Devils will be seeking vengeance for a historic 7-0 defeat in March.
