Chelsea and Tottenham, according to Jurgen Klopp, have a “massive advantage” over his Liverpool team in the race to qualify for the Champions League this year.
After a great start to the 2023–24 season, in which they have won five of their six games in the top division, Liverpool and Arsenal are seen as Manchester City’s key rivals for the Premier League title this season.
The only blemish on their record was the opening-day 1-1 draw with Chelsea, when many believed Mauricio Pochettino’s team would be contending for the top four.
But since then, the Blues have only gained four points from a possible five, as Pochettino struggles in his first campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Despite these difficulties, Klopp thinks that Chelsea and Tottenham have a “massive advantage” over his team in their quest to advance to the Champions League.
In advance of Liverpool’s encounter against Spurs on Saturday, Klopp stated on Friday that “Chelsea and Tottenham have no European football.”
“Two heavyweights who don’t play in European football have the entire week to train while other people go on vacation. It’s a significant benefit.
Because they will be well rested, “getting into the Champions League this year will be a massive, difficult task.”
After defeating Leicester 3-1 on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup, Jurgen Klopp’s team is still unblemished overall this year.
If Klopp was taken aback by how quickly his new Liverpool team clicked, he said, “Yeah. The primary factor is that we had a successful preseason with many of players present. That certainly is helpful. Getting outcomes recently in situations where things might have turned out differently in previous years.
“Each person has good quality, and they have potential. The group is flexible in many ways. For this team, it’s a fresh start and the first year. We’ve established a foundation and used it. We are unsure of how stable this is or how good we are, but we have enjoyed ourselves.
