Former Spurs player Sandro described how, when playing for Turkish club Antalyaspor, he and his teammates were forced to ride the bus as it was being stoned.
Sandro, a former midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, stated that he once found himself inside a Turkish team bus that was being stoned by football supporters.
Sandro joined Spurs in 2010 and stayed with them for four years before leaving to join QPR in 2014. QPR would later be relegated from the Premier League in Sandro’s first season at Loftus Road. But after two more seasons, the Brazilian international was playing for Turkish Super Lig team Antalyaspor in Turkey.
The midfielder had an encounter there that is now referred to as “crazy” Sandro and his teammates were traveling to a derby game for Antalyaspor in their team bus when they came across a swarm of opposing fans who started throwing stones at the coach.
Sandro, who announced his retirement from sports earlier this month, is no stranger to playing in front of boisterous football fans having witnessed the fervor of the Premier League. His experiences in Turkey, however, were on a completely different level.
Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes Fanzone, the former Spurs star also emphasized how drastically different Turkish fans’ mentalities are from those in England, noting that the latter group would be content to throw anything at players on the field. Sandro stated it was challenging to transition from playing in the Premier League to the Turkish league.
