James Maddison may have been a mistake for Manchester City to pass up during the most recent summer transfer window.
The Citizens acquired Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku, and Matheus Nunes as new transfers.
Despite having two new midfielders in the lineup, Maddison is one player that City have been connected with recently that we believe the Manchester club will regret not sealing a contract for.
Maddison.
City ought to have signed Maddison
The 26-year-old joined Tottenham Hotspur in June for a reputed sum of £40 million after making 203 appearances for Leicester City during which time he scored 55 goals and contributed 41 assists.
The midfielder has since made five appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s team, contributing two goals and two assists.
We believe that this is a deal that City should have pursued given those factors, as well as the fact that Pep Guardiola previously expressed his admiration for Maddison by calling him a “incredible” player back in 2019 and the relatively low price that Spurs paid for him in comparison to players like Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo.
Despite the additions of Kovacic and Nunes, Maddison’s acquisition might have provided City with the ideal long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne considering his potency in terms of providing goal contributions.
With all of that in mind, we believe that even if the season is still in its early stages, the England international has already cemented himself as one of the top additions of the summer, and City may regret not making sure they made that choice.
